World Series of Poker 2009

Phil Ivey

Phil Ivey is a really good American professional poker player. He is one of the best poker players in the world. Phil Ivey has won 7 World Series of Poker bracelets and he has even won 1 World Poker Tour title. Phil was runner up in the 2010 Aussie Millions 100K event. After he won this event he is now listed as first in the world among poker players for his total career winnings. Among many poker watchers Ivey is considered to be the best all around poker player in the world today. One of his nicknames is "The Tiger Woods of Poker".

Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, California on February 1, 1976. When he was only 3 months old his family moved all the way across the country to Absecon, New Jersey. It was in New Brunswick at a New Jersey telemarketing firm in the late 1990s when he started to develop his skills for playing poker among his co-workers.

Phil Ivey, Tiger Woods of Poker Another one of Phil Ivey's nicknames is "No Home Jerome" because of a ID card he got in order to practice poker in Atlantic City when he was a teenager.

Phil Ivey was taught by his grandfather how to play Five-Card stud at a young age. His grandfather also showed him a old hustlers trick of dealing from the bottom of the card deck to show him how dangerous playing poker can be. Ivey did not care because he just wanted to be one of the best poker players in the world. He would tell anyone who would listen that he was going to be a professional poker player.

Phil Ivey has reached a record 8 final tables at the World Poker Tour during his career so far. Ivey has lost several World Poker Tour competitions because he held onto the same starting hand each time, a Ace and a Queen. In February 2008 Ivey made it once again to the World Poker Tours final table and won the $1,596,000 first prize. Prior to winning he had lost 7 times in a row.

Ivey plays has played in many other tournaments other than just the World Poker tour competitions of course. He has won a lot of money in these other tournaments. Ivey went to play in the The London All Star Challenge which was Europe's first independent poker tour in 2006. Ivey made it to the final table during this poker tour and managed to come in 7th place winning $12,534.

The next day he played in The FullTiltPoker.Net Invitational Live game from Monte Carlo and he won $600,000 for coming in first place.

On January 22, 2007 Phil Ivey won $120,000 in the Poker After Dark game aired on NBC. Phil Ivey had a wife but it did not work out like his poker career did. Phil and his wife Luciaetta, filed for a joint petition divorce in December 2009. The divorce was granted on the 29th of December 2009. They were married for 7 years but it just did not work out.
