World Series of Poker 2009

Phil Hellmuth, The Poker Brat

Phil Hellmuth is a amazingly good professional poker player. One thing that Phil Hellmuth is really known for is his record number of World Series of Poker bracelets he has won over the years of his career. Phil Hellmuth has won a record 11 World Series of Poker bracelets so far. He is also known for his "poker brat" personality.

Phil Hellmuth was born in Madison, Wisconsin on July 16, 1964. Phil Hellmuth did go to college for a few years prior to getting involved in professional poker. He went to the University of Wisconsin-Madison for 3 years. Phil decided to drop out of college though and decided to play poker full time.

Phil Hellmuth, The Poker Brat Another thing he is known for is what he achieved in 1989. In 1989 Phil Hellmuth beat two time champion Johny Chan in heads up play. The event the he won was the World Series of Poker final table game. Now you may wonder why is Phil Hellmuth so famous for winning the World Series of Poker final table event when so many other have won that even before him and still win today. Well, Phil Hellmuth was the youngest player to win the World Series of Poker final table event at the age of just 24 years old. Winning this event was just the start of a great career for Phil Hellmuth.

Prior to winning the World Series of Poker final table he won his 10th World Series of Poker bracelet. He did this at age 22. The win came from a game in the $1,500 No Limit Hold'em Event. Even at a young age Phil Hellmuth was a amazing poker player. This win tied him with two other poker champions: Doyle Brunson and Johnny Chan in number of World Series of Poker bracelets won. The only difference was that Phil Hellmuth won all his bracelets in Texas hold'em.

It was in 2007 that Phil made his record breaking win. At the 2007 World Series of Poker he won his 11th bracelet in the $1,500 No Limit Hold'em Event. This was a record breaking win, he had won 11 bracelets in the World Series of Poker events, more than any other player. Another couple of records that Phil Hellmuth holds are: most WSOP cashes(75 total) and most WSOP final tables(41 total tables).

There is one other thing that Phil Hellmuth is known for and that is his rude comments and big mouth. There is one thing that Phil likes to do during a poker game and that is talk a lot. Sometimes his comments are very rude and get him into trouble. His comments have caused him problems during a game more than once, and quite a few players like needling Phil more than anyone in the world. Check out Let's Taser Phil Hellmuth, a great site needling The Poker Brat.

One time during a game Phil made veteran poker professional Sam Grizzle so mad the two men actually got into a physical fight. Phil said that the fight was won by neither of them. Luckily nobody was injured during the fight. This fight did not stop him from running his mouth and he is still known today for talking a lot during games and making people angry with his rude comments.
