Michael Mizrachi: A Biography

Michael Mizrachi is one of the most successful of the younger generation of professional poker players, and looks to be one of the biggest stars in the game for years to come. After developing his skills by playing online Mizrachi burst onto the scene of tournament poker with his success on the World Poker Tour. In addition to being one of the top players on the WPT, this year he finally won his first World Series of Poker bracelet.

Michael Mizrachi Michael Mizrachi is from Miami Florida, the son of an Iraqi Jewish father he grew up in a family of four boys. The boys taught themselves to play poker and practised by playing against each other. The practice seems to have paid off as three of the boys are now poker players, the fourth, Daniel, chose a career as a magician. Micheal originally intended to be a doctor but during his college days he changed his mind and decided to make a career out of playing poker.

Like many of today's generation of poker stars Mizrachi began his career by playing in small buy in games online, while in college. Over time he progressed to playing in games with larger stakes and eventually reached the point where he decided it was time to drop out of college and commit himself to playing poker full time. Given the success he has had this seems to have been a good decision.

Most of Mizrachi's success has come on the World Poker Tour, his breakthrough being a fifth place finish at the 2005 World Poker Open. He quickly followed that up by winning the L.A. Poker Classic. That wasn't all he achieved during 2005 he also tied a record by cashing seven times during that years World Series of Poker. He ended the year by being chosen Card players Player of the year.

Since bursting on to the scene in 2005 Michael Mizrachi has continued to win tournaments on the World Poker Tour and in 2010 finally won his first World Series of Poker bracelet. The victory was especially sweet for Mizrachi as his brother Robert finished fifth in the same event.

Mizrachi is married and has two children, a son and a daughter and lives in Hollywood Florida. He has been given the nickname the Grinder because he is such a determined competitor. Like a lot of players Mizrachi is quite superstitious and believes that he doesn't do well when he plays wearing red, but that he does play well when he wears blue.
