Doyle Brunson is a amazing poker player for sure. Doyle Brunson can make you sit at the edge of your seat while he plays cards.
He is a professional poker player so he is used to the high stakes but to most people his bets are enough to make us watching at home start to sweat and squirm in our seats.
Doyle Brunson was born in Longworth, Fisher County, Texas on August 10, 1933. The town he was born in had a whopping 100 people in it.
Doyle was the oldest child and he had 2 siblings. Brunson would often take long trips on foot to neighboring towns and the long trip which he liked to run got him in great shape.

He joined the All-State Texas basketball team as it was something that he enjoyed doing. He also liked to run and he would do this to
keep in shape when he was not playing basketball. He entered in the 1950 Texas Interscholastic Track Meet and he actually won the 1
mile event. He preferred to play basketball over track running though so he stuck to basketball.
He played so well that the The Minneapolis Lakers were actually interested in him for their basketball team but he had a bad accident
and it ended his basketball career. The accident happened when he got a summer job. He was helping to unload some sheetrock and somehow
the weight shifted and it fell on his leg and broke it in 2 places. He tried to stop it out of instinct but he could not hold up all the weight.
This accident was pretty bad. He was in a cast for 2 years. To this day he still sometimes needs the help of a crutch to get around.
He started to focus on his education instead of a sports career and got a bachelor's degree in 1954 and he went on to get his masters the next year.
He had played some poker before he had the accident but he started to play more after the accident because he could not compete in
sports anymore. He got a job as a business machines salesman after he graduated college. The very first day he was invited to play
a seven-card stud game and he won a full months wages in under 3 hours. He left shortly after to become a professional poker player.
He played in small matches like anyone else working their way up the ranks and since he was so good he kept winning. He has been
playing professional poker now for over 50 years. In 2009 his winning totals was over $5,800,000. Doyle Brunson is the first two-time
World Series of Poker main event champion to win consecutively 2 years in a row. Brunson was also the first player to ever win over
$1 million in poker tournaments. He has won so far 10 World Series Poker bracelets.
Doyle Brunson also has a wife who he met in 1960 and married 2 years later.
His son (
Todd Brunson) and daughter also plays poker and his daughter has outlasted the both of them in a couple of events.
